Our biggest trivia night yet!

Victoria

Charmaine Tu, Victorian Branch Chair and the Branch Member Engagement Group hosted a Zoom Trivia night for speech pathologists on 26 August at 8pm. This followed the format for the previous monthly trivia events that the Vic Branch initiated to keep contact with speech pathologists during the COVID lockdown. Member engagement had a goal to involve more regional speech pathologists in Branch and we were pleased to see representatives from Ballarat, Geelong (Barwon Health), Bendigo health services, as well as Alexandra and Castlemaine, Victoria. In total there were 50 attendees. From the polls of attendees, we know that 88% were speech pathologists, and of these 92% were members of Speech Pathology Australia, 6% were past members and 2% had never been a member. We had a good student attendance from various universities, and we had student representatives of Vic Branch as well. Thanks to everyone for your attendance and support. Charmaine had devised great questions and some quirky polls! As those who attended will know the group preference was for dogs over cats, forests over snow, going back in time to going to the future and intelligence over wealth (you had to be there to understand!) It was all good fun. We used the Zoom/Kahoot format to answer questions and had three rounds of mixed questions; general knowledge and some speech pathology questions, including promoting the theme of Speech Pathology Week, 'Communicating with Confidence'. The portfolio groups were given the opportunity to introduce themselves. During one break Sarah Draper from ME group gave a summary of the Vic Branch role and the Portfolio structure: Member Engagement, Advocacy and Student member representation. She also gave a summary of the benefits of membership of the Association. We were all able to connect with one another in the social setting. Our top prize winners were Wendy Kuo in 1st place, Alice Powell in 2nd and Anna Seizer in 3rd, who will all receive a gift voucher, and Tanaya and Jenny Mc who were off the podium but performed very well in fourth and fifth place. Thanks to ME members Sarah Draper, Chrissa Stavrou and Sophie Griffin for their assistance and participation in the event.

VIC 2768 members as at September 2020

Our final event in Speech Pathology week was on the Friday afternoon and included, a coffee catchup with Charmaine Tu and a debrief on the week. Jenny Elliott Vic Branch Member Engagement
