SP Week 2020
QLD
In Speech Pathology Week, services all across Queensland ran events to build awareness of the speech pathology profession across their local communities. Many of these demonstrate the innovative ways in which services across the state have responded to the restrictions that have been in place due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Below is a taste of some of the events and initiatives that were run across Queensland for Speech Pathology Week 2020. Brisbane Cooee Speech Pathology had an article about finding a speech pathologist posted on the Brisbane Kids Website, www.brisbanekids.com.au/how-to-find-a-speech- therapist-for-your-child Gold Coast Between the health education and private practice sectors the Gold Coast speech pathologists organised radio interviews, contributed to content that was included about the speech pathology profession on television, contributed content to local newsletters and ran workshops. Sunshine Coast The Sunshine Coast speech pathology community provided resources to childcare centres and GP clinics on the role of a speech pathologist and supporting individuals to communicate with confidence. One childcare centre also received a donation of books that won the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Award in 2019 Darling Downs The Darling Downs region organised an information display at the Toowoomba Hospital and the regions interagency group met for a happy hour on the Friday afternoon of Aleisha, the then regional representative for the South West region, organised for 20+ information packs to be sent to doctors across the region.
