Speak Out OCTOBER 2021 DIGITAL EDITION

BRANCH NEWS Victoria In August the Vic Branch Member Engagement Portfolio ran a trivia night via Zoom to celebrate Speech Pathology Week, as we found ourselves in lockdown once more. This is not a new experience wherever you live in Australia now, so we made the most of it and invited nembers to attend for a bit of fun. We were joined by a mixed group of practicing speech pathologists, educators from various faculties and students, along with Vic Branch members and student reps. We have all done trivia before and most of us are getting competitive, especially as Charmaine Tu had purchased prizes for the winners. Being locked up in our homes has honed this competitive edge, plus we are used to the format and realise that the time in answering is vital to the score, so we have taken some tips from Hard Quiz and now jump right in. Sophie Griffin, the "socials" Queen of Vic Branch and Vice Chair could not be with us but left us a great set of questions, making for a great tussle between competitors. Emma Jennings, rural and regional rep, Chrissa Stavrou and Jenny Elliott were able to be there for the member engagement portfolio. Diverse knowledge was needed: the speech pathology topics: Fisher-Atkin Articulation survey figured, as did the Western Aphasia Battery, also AAC, but there were also random ones. So knowing the number of Teletubbies proved useful, as did knowledge of the dates of the summer Olympic games, and the name of skin that is shed when you sunburn (the answer is blype for future quiz nights!) One Indigenous theme questions was intriguing as we were asked for the place named ‘Quo-Yung’, (Richmond for those unaware), as well as the theme for NAIDOC week. Another question brought the total of Vic Branch members of Speech Pathology Australia to our attention (Answer: 4500) We are a knowledgeable lot! Charmaine Tu, our Branch Chair, hosted the event, but we think next time someone else will volunteer so she can participate. At the end of three rounds the following members were on the podium: Giulia, Dawn, and Kate. Chrissa from member engagement managed fifth well done! Thanks to all the Victorian Members of Speech Pathology Australia who participated in Speech Pathology Week 2021 and helped make lockdown a happier time.
