SA parent and baby expo
South Australia
After not two, but three false starts in the year that was 2020, the Adelaide Pregnancy Babies and Children’s (PBC) Expo went ahead over the weekend of the 17 and 18 of May. This year we went with the theme ‘Development between the flags’ and focused on building awareness about early communication milestones using the SPA Milestones Toolkit. There were over 8000 visitors to the expo over the weekend, and a steady flow of visitors to the SPA booth where our team of speechies and student speechies answered questions about early communication, and about a range of other topics such as raising bilingual kids, tongue tie and what to do about it, learning sign language, and many other topics. We gave out 300 communication milestones posters to parents and parents to be over two days, and directed many other parents to scan the SPA QR code and check out the fact sheets available on the website. We also got to speak with a range of local services providers and businesses about communication milestones and build awareness about speech pathologists and speech pathology services in our community. A huge thanks to all who got involved and gave their time and energy over the weekend, and even bigger thanks for getting into the theme and dressing up with such enthusiasm.
