Speech Pathology Australia would like to introduce you to the 2022 Conference Planning Committee. Convenor Dr Diane Jacobs
Aashna Vizarani Aashna is a speech pathologist at Epworth Rehabilitation Richmond. She has a key interest in neuroscience and the implications of traumatic brain injury and stroke on swallowing and communication. Aashna has served as member of the SPA Victorian Branch and as the Professional Development Officer for the Golden Key International
Diane works at Australian Catholic University where she is the National Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Speech Pathology. Diane has a clinical background working in schools as well as child and adolescent mental health. At ACU she currently teaches an interprofessional psychology unit to allied health students as well as teaching into Year 2 professional practice units. Scientific program chair Dr Abby Foster Abby is the Monash Health Allied Health Research Advisor. She supports clinicians to build research culture and capability to improve patient outcomes and experience. Her research interests lie in communication access and the lived experience of communication disability. She is a qualitative research nerd and long-time supporter of #speechiesgonewild Gulsen Ellul Gulsen has been practicing in the area of acute speech pathology for 15 years. Her clinical specialities include Burns and ICU and she has been involved in research studies and publications in the areas of dysphagia, voice and burns. She is currently the Senior ICU Speech Pathologist at Werribee Mercy Hospital. Mia Roberts Mia is a paediatric speech pathologist who graduated from Australian Catholic University in 2016. She currently works at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools in Melbourne’s western suburbs and has an interest in oral language, phonological awareness and supporting clinical education of university students.
Honours Society. As a member of the social committee for the 2022 SPA national conference, Aashna is keen to bring her passion for creating environments that foster shared- learning and innovative practice as well as opportunities to network with colleagues from within and beyond our borders! Invitation and Call for Papers Beyond Borders: If nothing else, recent events have demonstrated the ingenuity and resolve required to provide quality speech pathology services. Specifically, challenging and changed times has reminded us to stretch and reach beyond our perceived borders to achieve excellence with our practice, research, information dissemination and client and family engagement. It has also reaffirmed that speech pathologists’ reach and impact is far and wide. Therefore, we invite you to join us in Melbourne in 2022 to share and discuss how we have gone "beyond borders" regarding clientele, research and information dissemination. We look forward to seeing you there! How to Submit From Wednesday 9 June 2021 guidelines and details on how to submit an abstract can be found at: www. speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/spa2022 Submissions must be received by Tuesday 14 September 2021 . You will be notified about the success of your submission by Monday 13 December 2021 . Submissions accepted by the Conference Planning Committee will be grouped under nominated themes for presentation at the conference.
