New professional practice resources Two new FREE learning modules
Exploring innovation in clinical education within the private practice sector Universities are always keen to engage with SPA members in the private practice sector in order to be able to find suitable clincial placements and different experiences for students. Private providers have the opportunity to share what professional life looks like in the private sector. This learning module provides an array of innovative models of clincial education that speech pathologists working in the private sector can provide to students; how you can engage with universities and outlines the many positive benefits for you, your staff and the students themselves when you offer clinical placements. If you want to learn more about how you could support a student then work through this learning module presented by Associate Professor Sally Hewatt and Mrs Abigail Lewis.
Supporting mental health in the workplace Workplace stress is now recognised as a major workplace health and safety risk factor and the impact of COVID-19 has shone even more light on this issue. This learning package, presented by Anna Pannuzzo from WorkPlacePLUS, aims to support speech pathology private practice owners, managers and employees to manage their professional lives and stave off burnout; and to support senior managers and private practice owners to comply with their employer obligations by providing a psychologically safe workplace under workplace health and safety laws. Work through a number of short videos, view an array of resources and listen to the Q & A session. Private Practice Policy and Procedure Manual
A recent audit of this manual identified a number of policies and procedures that were in need of being updated or added to this manual. It now includes the following for you to use in your practice: • grievance complaints including support around client complaints, aggressive or threatening behaviour and employee conflict resolution and a grievance complaints checklist, • diversity policy that covers supports about discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment, workplace violence and responsibilities and how to make a complaint, • personal mobile device policy that provides guidance around use of personally owned laptops, smart phones etc for business purposes and an associated checklist
• performance management and associated checklist, • checklist to accompany the Code of Conduct policy.
