Objectives: • Provide current information regarding the progress within aware, prepare and adopt phases of the Australian implementation • Provide practical information about the IDDSI framework, including information about enablers and challenges to implementation in Australia gained from feedback from international pilot sites • Share resources developed by IDDSI and tailored to the Australian context • Guide participants through IDDSI testing methods using practical sessions. Results or practice implications: • Examples of implementation strategies and activities, educational resources, audit tools and patient handouts will be provided • Participants will be enabled to progress in the ‘Prepare’ phase of the implementation of the IDDSI framework within their workplace • Participants will be familiar with the IDDSI testing methods • Participants will be prepared for the Australian launch date of 1 st May 2019. Learning outcomes: • Participants will be able to describe the IDDSI framework and have a practical understanding of the IDDSI testing methods • Participants will understand IDDSI’s relationship to the Australian national terminology for texture modified foods and thickened liquids • Participants will have practical experience with mapping a range of foods and drinks used in Australia to the IDDSI framework. The purpose of this workshop/seminar is to inform and engage with speech pathologists about steps towards implementation of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) Framework in Australia. The workshop is designed to provide practical information about the IDDSI framework, share resources developed by IDDSI and tailored to the Australian context, and guide participants through IDDSI testing methods using practical sessions. The workshop will provide practical information about enablers and challenges to implementation in Australia gained from feedback from international pilot sites. The workshop will provide details regarding the Australian implementation process and time frames. As part of the Australian IDDSI ‘Prepare’ Phase in 2018, examples of implementation strategies and activities, educational resources, audit tools and patient handouts will be provided. At the completion of the seminar participants will be able to describe the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework and have a practical understanding of the IDDSI testing methods. Participants will understand IDDSI’s relationship to the Australian national terminology for texture modified foods and thickened liquids. Participants will have practical experience with mapping a range of foods and drinks used in Australia to the IDDSI framework to be prepared for the Australian launch date of 1 May 2019. Introduction/rationale: IDDSI is an international, multi- disciplinary group of volunteers who have been collaborating since 2012 to develop standardised terminology for texture modified foods and thickened liquids for people with dysphagia. The final IDDSI framework was published in November 2015. SPA and DAA Boards ratified the implementation of the IDDSI framework in Australia in November 2016 and a steering SESSION FULL
