A View From The Floor
Expert clinicians, Beth Osten and Chithra Kathiresan, present A View From The Floor. This innovative course provides an introductory training in the DIR® Floortime Model developed by Dr Stanley Greenspan and Serena Weider to treat children with a range of difficulties. The DIR® (Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship Based) Model uses therapeutically guided interaction with the child as a means of moving the child up the developmental ladder. The DIR® Model uses emotional and experience-based learning to improve social skills, language, independence, and to teach specific concepts and academics. A developmental approach to supporting children with developmental difficulties, learning challenges, regulatory disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Learning Outcomes Identify the principles underlying Floortime Describe the six stages of functional emotional development Explain the specific core capacities that interrupt the developmental process (language abilities, motor planning, sensory processing and regulatory abilities, etc.) Discuss the developmental language model used to organise treatment protocols Use and integrate the DIR® philosophy into treatment and home interactions Develop an awareness of current research in early identification of autism spectrum disorders and monitoring of siblings
Chithra has 22 years experience as a Speech & Language Therapist, including training and experience in DIR/ Floortime, the Hanen programs and Social Thinking. She lectures on these approaches internationally. She is a member of the Social Thinking Speakers Collaborative and is considered a DIR Floortime Expert
Beth has 40 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist. She is trained in Neuro-Development Treatment (NDT), Sensory Integration & Praxis Test (SIPT) certified and co-author of The Test of Infant Motor Development. Beth is a faculty member with the Interdisciplinary Council on
Development and Learning Disorders and Profectum. She is the owner of Beth Osten & Associates and teaches within the U.S. and internationally.
with ICDL and is a DIR Trainer with Profectum. Chithra is the owner of Connect and Communicate LLP in Singapore.
