Four Griffith University Masters of Speech Pathology students have been on placement with the Department of Education Early Years Footprint Team at Brassall State School. The students fully embraced the 2020 Speech Pathology Week ‘Communicating with Confidence’ theme. During break times, the Griffith University students gathered an eager crowd of Preps to read and discuss popular classroom storybooks. The Early Years Footprint Placement aims to provide clinical experience in "closing the loop" on hearing, language and literacy outcomes utilising evidence informed practice within a culturally responsive framework. MP meeting

Queensland member Yvette Dempsey met with her local MP Meaghan Scanlon during Speech Pathology Week. "She was very generous with her time, interviewed me and put a written post on her social media about the visit," said Yvette. Yvette has met with Meaghan before to talk about her work and Meaghan who has a brother with Down Syndrome and utilised speech therapy is a great supporter of the profession. During her visit Yvette shared some SPA resources including the popular Communication Milestones poster and fact sheets.
