Speak Out October 2018

Branch News

Student cocktail night to celebrate SP Week THE STUDENT COCKTAIL night was a great success. The event was held at the Globe Bar in Perth CBD who were super accommodating for this event for two years running. This year we had 85 tickets sold through the SPA website, and an additional eight were sold on the night at the door. Thank you to the people and companies who kindly donated raffle prizes. We successfully raised $303 through raffle tickets sales and door tickets. A massive thank you to David Docherty who donated his time and talents for the entirety of the night (and from what I hear a few hours of prep) to provide us with live music. Overall we had an approximate donation of more than $1000 for the Speak Easy Association. All reports from attendee’s was positive and we are delighted by the number of people who attended the night. Thanks again to all of the student reps who helped out! I really think that the extra effort that was put into putting up posters and streamers was a great addition and reminded everyone what the night was about.

Awareness building for SP Week SPA WA BRANCH held an information awareness building stall at the Subiaco Markets for Speech Pathology Week 2018. A group of local speechies volunteered to help the community learn about communication access across the lifespan and challenged the community to order a coffee without using their voice! Lots of fun was had, and many people walked away with a new understanding of what speech pathology could offer them. A big thanks to all our wonderful volunteers for helping out on the day, bringing fun resources, and advocating for the profession.
