Speak Out February 2016

speech pathology 2030

“My speechie has given me my voice back and continues to help me over all the humps and bumps along the way. I'd be absolutely lost without her.”

The overwhelmingly positive response to the Speech Pathology 2030 project confirms what we already knew–speech pathologists are extremely interested in the future of their profession. The nominations for thought leaders were insightful and wide- ranging. With over 200 nominations it has been a challenging task to shortlist to 20 individuals. Interviews are underway and it has been tremendously encouraging to hear the insights these 'thinkers' have about the future of our profession. Positive response to Speech Pathology 20 3 0 Interviewing clients has also been a task that the project team has described as both interesting and a privilege. The clients have consistently commented on how pleased they are to be involved in the project. Each of them has a powerful voice and an important message for us as we contemplate the future of our profession. As one client observed, “with the emphasis on technology now I hope speech pathologists never lose their recognition of the client and their relationship as being absolutely central to everything they do”. A full wrap up of the thought leader interviews will be included in the April edition of Speak Out.

What a great start to the Speech Pathology 2030 project.

Let’s all continue to work together on making futures happen for our profession. Gaenor Dixon National President
