2020 NATIONAL CONFERENCE 24 – 27 May Darwin Convention Centre, Northern Territory
Program update The Conference Planning Committee (CPC) is pleased to announce that the 2020 National Conference – L o c a l C o n t e x t s , G l o b a l P r a c t i c e program has been finalised. This was a particularly challenging process given the number of high-quality submissions that were received. The CPC has worked hard to produce a program with an excellent range of high standard presentations in a range of topics areas that will be of interest to a wide cross-section of the profession. The CPC is grateful for the assistance provided by the reviewers when selecting submissions to comprise the comprehensive program outlined in the online registration brochure, with five concurrent sessions each day. In addition to the presentations by the keynote and invited speakers, the conference program features oral presentations, workshops, presented e-posters (PePs) and posters. PePs will be five-minute presentations about their poster included within a concurrent session. Time is provided for authors to take questions within the session. Posters will be on display in the exhibition hall each day of the conference, with dedicated times during lunch on Monday and Wednesday for the authors to speak to their poster and discuss their work with delegates. All authors who submitted abstracts to present at the conference have been contacted. This includes an official confirmation to authors who were notified their abstract has been included. If for some reason you have not been contacted, please email the National Conference Manager promptly on conference@ Included within this issue of Speak Out you will find a copy of the conference program flyer. This is an overview of the sessions that will be presented. Presentations by the keynote and invited speakers connect with the conference theme L o c a l C o n t e x t s , G l o b a l P r a c t i c e . There are multiple ways that speech pathologists undertake work each day and our key note speakers will share their expertise. Sustainability Speech Pathology Australia is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, decreasing waste and improving sustainability. For the 2020 national conference the Conference Planning Committee has been working hard to put initiatives into place to reduce the environmental impact on the conference. These initiatives include: • having an electronic final program, which will be available via the conference app (hard copies only available by request, when registering online). 2020 is the last year a hard copy will be offered; • a biodegradable conference bag; • environmentally friendly name badges and lanyards; and, • working with the Darwin Convention Centre on their carbon footprint and waste. We hope that you will help us to make this our most sustainable
conference very much in alignment with the conference theme. Professor Hyter’s seminar is titled Introduction to framework building for local, global and equitable practice and her masterclass will also focus on equity, titled Building a more
equitable practice: Evidence of research from literature on radical democratic multiculturalism, multilingualism, and human rights . We believe this is important work in an increasingly globalised profession.
