Regional, rural and remote catch-up

On the evening of 16 June a group of speech pathologists located within our regional, rural and remote areas of ACT/NSW Branch came together over teleconference to network and learn about the audiology discipline. Maree McTaggart was our guest speaker who passionately spoke about her profession. We look forward to offering more informal networking and CPD events for our regional, rural and remote clinicians. Welcome to the profession event

The ACT/NSW Branch recently hosted a Zoom event to give a warm welcome and show of support for imminent and recent graduates. The aim of the event was to help attendees feel connected, supported, and welcomed into the speech pathology profession. It was well attended with over 80 attendees who gave very positive feedback and indicated they would like to attend more meetings like this. Graduates and students from all ACT and NSW universities, as well as Flinders University and Curtin University joined us at the meeting. The event included a welcome and words of wisdom from the association's National President Tim Kittel, and Branch Chair Fiona Eastley, and a valuable Q&A session with experienced members Lisa Forbes, Heather Craven and Cara Jane Millar. A presentation from representatives of the Early Career Reference Group, Josephine Deng and Tayla Brown was very well received. Josephine and Tayla provided information about how SPA supports students and new graduates and also shared their own journeys

from graduation to early career speech pathology. Thanks also to Nate Cornish, SPA Professional Support Advisor, for attending. The night ended with a super fun and slightly challenging trivia session with members of the winning team taking home a gift card prize! A huge thanks to everyone who attended and to the speakers for sharing their knowledge. We were not able to record the ECRG information session or the Q&A session this time; however we hope to run similar events in the future for those who weren't able to attend. These will be advertised through eNews and the ACT/NSW Branch Facebook page, so keep an eye out!
