Speak Out August 2020 DIGITAL EDITION
Ready for work In 2019, Speech Pathology Australia produced a series of short videos designed to help speech pathology students in the final year at university. Although this Ready for Work series focuses on the needs of those entering the workforce, the content is also relevant to many practising speech pathologists, especially early career members. In the best of times the needs of early career speech pathologists are constantly evolving. This is particularly true in light of COVID-19 where new graduates will have had a different university experience than their colleagues. SPA plans to update video content to address these changing needs. We invite members to participate in a brief, online survey to help the Association understand what content may be most useful. Newly graduated speech pathologists, those who provide clinical supervision to early career members, and those who offer clinical education are especially encouraged to participate. As the content is reviewed and updated, Ready for Work remains a valuable resource that responds to various professional issues. We invite universities to refer students to the current videos as well as future updates. Early career members may also find the content helpful. Current topics include: Joining Speech Pathology Australia Pay and awards Work-life balance Employment contracts Working in private practice Work arrangements: Independent contractors and employees Ethics Starting work requirements Supervision Professional Self-Regulation Working under the NDIS National Quality Safeguarding and Code of Conduct Professional Development Early Career REFERENCE GROUP
