Early career night
WA
Recently, the Western Australian Student and New Graduate (WA SANG) Committee held its annual Early Career Wine and Cheese Night at Curtin University. Students and New Graduates from all across WA had the opportunity to network, ask questions and share experiences of work life over a glass of wine and nibbles. This year, our key speakers Nichola Harris (Speech Pathology Australia Manager Professional Practice), Anna Pannuzzo (WorkPlacePLUS), Emma Corry (SPA WA committee member) and Rachel Loughridge (SPA WA committee & Early Career Reference Group member) shared useful information and supports available to early career speech pathologists and students who will soon be making the transition into work life. Overall the night was an amazing success, with positive responses from attendees who were able to have their pressing questions regarding PSR, interview questions, supervision and more clarified by the speakers. On behalf of the WA SANG committee, I would like to extend a warm thank you to Curtin University for hosting the event as well as the key speakers for giving up their time to ensure our early career speech pathologists are informed and supported. We can’t wait for our next Early Career Wine and Cheese Night in 2020. Desiree Lobo Speech Pathologist

Students at Joint National Conference
Sami Capelli (Curtin University), Keely Galvin (Curtin University) and Mel Davis (Edith Cowan University) had the pleasure of attending the 2019 SPA & NZSTA National Conference in Brisbane. Each student was generously granted a Student Conference Attendance Award. The opportunity to attend the conference as students was highly valuable, with unique opportunities to learn about new and upcoming research that can be applied to our final year placements and beyond. Some highlights of the conference included: networking with speech pathologists from around Australia and New Zealand, furthering our knowledge, and being inspired to present research ourselves in the future. Thank you to Speech Pathology Australia for awarding these conference positions, it was an unforgettable experience to be a part of a community of dedicated and passionate individuals, working collectively to achieve better outcomes for our clients.
