Association news

This year there has been a number of new appointments to the SPA team. Many of you may already have chatted to the team as they are the first port of call for enquiries to National Office. We thought it was time to put the faces to the voices! Ryan Thomas recently joined the Association as receptionist. "I’m from the UK and moved to Melbourne around 18 months ago. I have enjoyed making Melbourne my new home and exploring all that Australia has to offer, especially walking/hiking in the beautiful countryside. I studied a Bachelor of Science (Geography) at the University of South Wales and finished my degree in 2014. Since graduation I have been working in roles that are based around travel and administration in the UK and Melbourne." Ryan's fun facts "I’m able to peel a banana with my feet and my arm span is longer than it should be, which makes reaching things on the top shelf much easier!" Alison Kellet joined SPA in January and works as Membership and Admin Assistant. According to Alison the best part of her job is helping members with questions about their membership. Alison's fun facts Alison loves anything to do with craft and can knit just about anything. Alison Kellet, Ryan Thomas and T-Lee Mason

T-Lee Mason is responsible for the processing of membership applications and renewals, queries, overseas qualifications and re- entry applications, and liaison with eligibility assessors. Tanya-Lee also provides administrative support across National Office in a range of areas. T-Lees's fun fact Tanya is an aspiring DJ with a particular passion for 80s and 90s hip hop. New Professional Self-Regulation Advisor SPA recently welcomed Rosie Miller into the role of PSR Advisor. Rosie is available to assist members with enquiries regarding the PSR program and is responsible for conducting Certified Practising Member audits. Rosie will also provide support to members transitioning from provisional to full CPSP status. “It’s a privilege to have been appointed to the role of PSR advisor for Speech Pathology Australia. I have always loved learning and aside from speech pathology have qualifications in applied linguistics, public health, horticulture and movement/dance therapy—and am still trying to learn Italian. I have over 30 years of experience as a speech pathologist and agree wholeheartedly with a member who said to me recently “you never stop learning”. Continuing professional development is an ethical responsibility central to our practice and professional growth. At the same time, I think learning should be fun and engaging and open up new possibilities. Regarding the PSR program, my hot tip is to get organised and record your continuing professional development activities as you go. Make it a new (financial) year resolution. That way, if you are audited it won’t be too painful! I welcome your enquiries and any ideas you may have for improving the program. I look forward to working with you!” You can contact Rosie at psr@speechpathologyaustralia.org.au
