80 years of speech pathology learning

In February, The University of Sydney celebrated 80 years since they graduated their first speech pathologist. The first teaching of speech pathologists in Australia started in 1938 at the then Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Camperdown and The University of Sydney. The first Australian speech pathologist, Elinor Wray, pioneered this program and the first graduate of the program in 1940 was Miss Sheila Muir Nimmo. Eighty years later, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the Discipline of Speech Pathology celebrated at The University of Sydney. Professor Tricia McCabe, Head of Discipline of Speech Pathology, presented a brief history of speech pathology in New South Wales and the role that The University of Sydney has played in helping to shape key areas of research, teaching, and community engagement in speech pathology.
