Swallowing Awareness Day As in 2019, the Association coordinated the date of Swallowing Awareness Day so it worked with a parallel campaign undertaken by the Royal College of Speech

Dysphagia: A difficult diagnosis to swallow

A range of marketing materials were provided to members to download from the website to support Swallowing Awareness Day activities.

and Language Therapists. With the assistance of the Royal College, the Association is endeavouring to make Swallowing Awareness Day an event on the international calendar. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, there was evidence of Dizzy, the Swallowing Awareness Day mascot, out and about spruiking the campaign. Participation with the campaign’s social media was strong with a lot of engagement with the day’s hashtags #swallowaware2020 and #dysphagia. A video with Dr Julie Cichero, 'What is swallowing', was well received and helped to reinforce a strong social media campaign. In the lead up to Swallowing Awareness Day the Association distributed a number of media releases, including one in conjunction with the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia, titled ‘You only have one mouth – take good care of it!’.
