She is reflective of her own practice and receptive and appreciative of all feedback provided, being able to quickly make changes and evolve her practice as a result… Jenna is a credit to our profession and would be an asset to any team she joins as a future new grad clinician.’ The Communicate WA Award winner was Michelle Dearle: “Michelle … developed and worked on a quality improvement project in the Day Therapy Unit to create profession- specific communication picture boards to support communication between staff and clients. This involved research of the literature and organising meetings with staff … creating the boards, trialling them, obtaining feedback and adjusting as required.” The Dr Anthea Masarei

The SPA WA Branch Executive Committee hosted its annual AGM and Student & Clinical Educator Awards night in November 2018. Clinical Educator Awards The Metro Clinical Educator of the Year award winner was Brooke Rendell who was described by her nominee as “an outstanding supervisor in so many ways… she seemed to know exactly what I needed to grow as a new speech pathologist. She always challenged me in positive and safe ways and really helped me learn through providing opportunities and experiences.” The Rural Clinical Educator of the Year award winner was Megan Jones: “Over the duration of my placement, Megan went above and beyond her role as a CE to continually provide me with a high level of support, encouragement, and feedback… I instantly felt welcomed… she was constantly seeking new opportunities for me to participate in to promote student learning… Megan’s passion for speech pathology was infectious and made me excited to finally enter the workforce as a new graduate.” The Rising Star in Clinical Education award winner was Teagan Martin and the Significant Contribution to Clinical Education award winner was Therapy Focus. Student Speech Pathologist Awards The Edith Cowan University Student award winner was Giordarna Rigoli: “Giordanna has demonstrated a high degree of clinical excellence and professionalism in her approach to assessment and management of patients… She is compassionate and kind towards all patients and acts in a professional manner in all interactions… Nothing is ever too much for Giordanna and she always turns up with a positive attitude. Giordanna acts in a way that reflects she will soon be one of our colleagues.” The Curtin University Undergraduate Student award winner was Annie Lamberto: “Annie was an exceptional student and contributed greatly to the community during her rural placement… she was able to use her clinical knowledge across a wide variety of clinical areas … and able to adapt to a variety of worksites as occurs in a rural caseload… Annie was dedicated to following best practice in her clinical work and working to how to

The winner of the 2018 Future Leader in Indigenous Allied Health Award , sponsored by the Dietitians’ Association of Australia, was Edith Cowan University’s final year speech pathology student, Mitchell Walley. This award recognises the incredible contribution members make to their professions and to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and our communities.
