Face shields •

Face shields provide barrier protection to the facial area and related mucous membranes (eyes, nose, lips) • Face shields are considered an alternative option to eye protection (e.g.,, goggles) • The primary function of a face shield is not respiratory protection • Face shields are not a substitute for face masks • Wear a face shield in conjunction with a mask (droplet precautions) or a respirator (airborne precautions) to ensure adequate protection against transmission. Masks with ties • When removing a mask with ties, undo the bottom tie first and then the top tie. This will prevent contamination of the face, hands or chin if the mask falls.
